About the Festival

The Virginia Festival of the Book is a celebrated tradition that brings together writers and readers to promote books, reading, literacy, and literary culture. We hope you’ll join us for our 2025 Festival, happening March 20–23 in Charlottesville, Virginia!

Festival events are in-person, with many livestreamed to reach audiences where they are. We feature an exciting array of genres, appealing to a wide variety of readers. From bestselling household names, to debut novelists publishing with indie presses, the Festival brings together a diverse gathering of authors to meet thousands of readers.

In 2024, we celebrated our 30th anniversary with a “Wordy Thirty” anniversary party, including a salon reception with US Poet Laureate Ada Limón, alongside bestselling authors Roxane Gay, Adriana Trigiani, and Jeannette Walls. The Festival program included more than 140 events, including Preview Events in Central and Southwest Virginia.

Our 2023 program included more than 40 events, including Festival Preview Events in Central and Southwest Virginia. Our 30th anniversary will be bigger and better, featuring preview events across the Commonwealth, as well as our “Wordy Thirty” Anniversary Party on March 23, 2024 in Charlottesville. Sponsors have an opportunity to support the Festival through a broad, unspecified gift; or by sponsoring a particular Festival program or event, or a series of Festival Events (like our Crime Wave Series or our Business Books Track).

Stay tuned for the full Festival schedule in January 2025.

Audience Feedback from Past Festivals:

Thank you for making this happen virtually. Since I can’t drive and have disabilities, I never would have been able to attend the Virginia Festival of the Book otherwise.

Your festival is one of the best & I’m so happy to have discovered it.

First event I’ve attended, but now want to attend more!
