Ruth Behar, author of Letters from Cuba and Tía Fortuna’s New Home, was born in Havana, Cuba, and grew up in New York. She was the first Latina to win a MacArthur ‘Genius’ Grant and is an anthropology professor at the University of Michigan. She returns often to Cuba to build bridges around culture, literature, and Jewish life.
