Gregory Wilson is professor of history at the University of Akron. His scholarship covers a wide range of topics in modern United States history. He has published on environmental history, deindustrialization and poverty, political violence, as well as state and local history.

Wilson was a Virginia Humanities Fellow in 2016. His 2023 book, Poison Powder, was supported in part by this Fellowship. Learn more about his work in this 2016 article, The Legacy of Kepone.

In 1975, an unexplained but dire illness came to light among workers at a Hopewell, Virginia chemical plant. More investigation revealed that Allied Chemical Corporation had been contaminating the area with pesticides for more than a decade.
