This workshop is presented in partnership with the Maier Museum of Art at Randolph College. In conjunction with the 112th Annual Exhibition, Back to Front: Artists’ Books by Women, Gary Dop, poet/playwright, director of Randolph’s MFA program, and English faculty, will lead an ekphrastic writing exercise.

Artist Lyall Harris will give a tour of the 112th Annual Exhibition, Back to Front: Artists’ Books by Women, and lead a bookmaking activity which will incorporate participants’ ekphrastic writing into an artists’ book connecting text, image, and form. Workshop participants will engage in several writing prompts and make simple book structures. These exercises will merge in integrated projects of text and form.

The Virginia Festival of the Book Preview Events bring authors across the state before the main Festival in Charlottesville on March 20-24. Preview events are sponsored by Michelle and David Baldacci.
