This year, the Festival’s partnership with CFA Institute celebrates its fifth anniversary. We honor this milestone by sustaining our shared strategy to present meaningful, diverse programming to a broad audience that advances inclusion.
Programming that is making an impact.
Open conversation is a key element of the approach CFA Institute takes to its culture of learning among staff on topics of inclusion, and the Festival is continually energized to see programs like this used as a resource in the workplace. “Our dialogue with CFA Institute has informed how we approach many of our corporate partnerships today, encouraging their model of book-based learning enhanced by Festival programming to support the organization’s objectives. CFA Institute is a true friend and inspiration in our work.”—Jane Kulow, director of the Virginia Festival of the Book
The conversation continues on the first day of the 2022 Virginia Festival of the Book with The Inner Work of Racial Justice: A Conversation with Rhonda V. Magee, sponsored by CFA Institute. On March 16 at 2 PM ET, Magee, a mindfulness teacher and law professor, will discuss her work with Eboni Bugg, exploring the intersections of anti-racist education, social justice, and contemplative practices.
“CFA Institute is pleased to partner with the Virginia Festival of the Book to amplify writing that contributes to making work a place where everyone can both be and feel safe, valued, and respected. We are focused on growth through awareness, skill building, and behavior change. Change happens when we are all accountable to our diversity and inclusion efforts through integration into the fabric of an organization. This can only happen when employee wellness and psychological safety are a top priority.”—Mike Murphy, Director, Inclusion & Community Programs at CFA Institute.
Dr. Magee’s 2021 book, The Inner Work of Racial Justice, Healing Ourselves and Transforming Our Communities Through Mindfulness, is already making an impact as “a significant new voice I’ve wanted to hear for a long time–a voice both unabashedly powerful and deeply loving in looking at race and racism. Most importantly, Rhonda’s voice is a practical one, illuminating a path each of us can follow to a life filled with far greater awareness, connection, and peace.”—Sharon Salzberg, New York Times-bestselling author of Real Happiness
