Q&A with Julian Maxwell Hayter


Get to know 2018 Festival speaker Julian Maxwell Hayter, author of The Dream Is Lost: Voting Rights and the Politics of Race in Richmond, Virginia; a historian; and assistant professor of leadership studies at the University of Richmond.

If you could make everyone in the world read one book, which would it be?

Benjamin Hoff’s The Tao of Pooh. It’s the big kids’ version of Everything I Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten.

What is your favorite aspect of participating in book festivals?

Being around so many authors. The creative energy is par excellence.
