BOOK FESTIVAL LUNCHEON & BENEFIT RECEPTION TICKETS GO ON SALE

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (Feb. 11, 1997) - The sale of tickets for two special events at the Third Annual Virginia Festival of the Book (March 20-23) has officially started. While most Festival programs are free and open to the public, two special functions require pre-purchased tickets:

Benefit Reception with Participating Authors:

Thursday, March 20, 6:00-7:30 PM, Bayly Art Museum, $35.

Luncheon with John Grisham:

Friday, March 21, 12:00 NOON, The Omni Hotel, $30.

The Luncheon seating is limited with a maximum of two tickets per request as long as the supply lasts; first come, first served. Checks and money orders only; no credit cards.

"To avoid disappointment, we suggest that people buy their tickets now," advises Festival coordinator Cecile Tucker.

"The Luncheon is sure to sell out quickly, and we want to give everyone an opportunity to hear the #1-selling author in the country: John Grisham."

According to Tucker, there are two ways to purchase tickets.

1. Advance Programs listing Festival activities and including ticket order forms are now available at area bookstores and libraries. Simply tear out the form and mail it in with payment and a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE). The tickets - or a response if the events are sold out - will be mailed back. 2. The second option is to call (804-924-3296) for ticket availability and send a written ticket request with payment and an SASE to: VFOB, 145 Ednam Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22903.

"When the tickets to these two events are gone," Tucker emphasizes, "they're gone."

In just three years, the Virginia Festival of the Book has grown from a small pilot project to a major regional event featuring workshops, readings, exhibits, book signings, and more than 100 participating writers. In all, more than 150 programs are scheduled throughout the four-day Festival in and around Charlottesville. More than 10,000 aspiring and professional writers, children, history buffs, senior citizens, and book lovers of all kinds are expected to attend the 1997 event.
