Dan Ariely, author of the New York Times best-selling Predictably Irrational, is a student of behavioral economics, and the featured speaker at the Festival Business Breakfast, on Wednesday, March 18. He has just become the James B. Duke Professor of Behavioral Economics at Duke University, and has also taught at the M.I.T. Sloan School of Management. He is a founding member of the Center for Advanced Hindsight.

His backstory is compelling—as an Israeli soldier, he was badly burned and spent months in the hospital. During this time he began to consider research which would look at how emotions, social norms and other factors affect behavior in ways that are not always rational.
