Grammy Award winner Pete Seeger will sing and tell stories from his new book Pete Seeger’s Storytelling Book. Appearing with Seeger is Norma Fox Mazer, award-winning author of many novels for young people.

Opening Celebration

Best-selling author David Baldacci and Lee Smith will officially open the Seventh Annual Virginia Festival of the Book as they speak about turning life experiences into literature.

Annual Festival Luncheon with Paule Marshall
Friday, March 23, 11:45 am at Omni Charlottesville Hotel
With a career spanning four decades, novelist and MacArthur Fellow Paule Marshall will be the keynote speaker and will read from her latest book, The Fisher King. (Sold out.) Please call for press passes.

Motheread and Fatheread Day
Saturday, March 24, 10:00 am-2:00 pm, Charlottesville Ice Park
This midday event is presented by Motheread and Fatheread, the family literacy program of the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. Poet Arlene Carter-Pounds (The Sugar Lady), author Kathy May (Molasses Man), illustrator Mark Teague (Poppleton series), singer/songwriter Phil Hoose, and young author Akaela S. Michels-Gualtieri will entertain children and adults alike.

Annual Festival Reception
Saturday, March 24, 6:00 pm at Carr’s Hill, UVa
The annual reception with Festival participants will be hosted this year by Jan Karon and Fernando Opere at the home of University of Virginia President John T. Casteen. Tickets ($30) are required. Please call for press passes.
